چکیده

A new algorithm based on the Schwartz-Neumann alternating technique is developed for the solution of elastic-plastic fracture mechanics problems. An analytical solution for an elastic crack, with arbitrary crack-face loading, is used inside an initial stress iterative procedure as an addition to the finite element solution for the uncracked body. Iteration processes of the alternating method and of the initial stress method are performed simultaneously. Numerical examples show that the proposed elastic-plastic alternating method in conjunction with the equivalent domain integral method provides reasonable values of the I-integral.

An elastic-plastic finite element alternating method for analyzing wide-spread fatigue damage in aircraft structures

62 Abstract In this paper, a new analytical technique to study the effect of wide-spread fatigue damage in ductile panels is presented. The main purpose of the study is to develop an efficient methodology to predict the maximum load carrying capacity of panels with cracks. The problem arises especially in the fuselage skin of aging airplanes, in which cracks initiate from a row of rivet holes. ...

Numerical Analysis of the Effect of External Circumferential Cracks in Transition Thickness Zone of Pressurized Pipes Using XFEM – Elastic-Plastic Behavior

The elastic-plastic behavior of the material is considered to analyze the effect of an external circumferential crack on a pipe with thickness transition and double slopes. Using the extended finite element method (XFEM), the J-integral of 3D cracks were investigated and compared between straight pipes and pipes with thickness transition and different slopes. Considering internal press...

Combining SGBEM and FEM for modeling 3D cracks

The SGBEM-FEM alternating method suitable for the solution of elastic and elasticplastic three-dimensional fracture mechanics problems is presented. The crack is modeled by the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method (SGBEM), as a distribution of displacement discontinuities in an infinite medium. The finite element method (FEM) is used for stress analysis of the uncracked finite body. The s...

A Semi-analytical Approach to Elastic-plastic Stress Analysis of FGM Pressure Vessels

An analytical method for predicting elastic–plastic stress distribution in a cylindrical pressure vessel has been presented. The vessel material was a ceramic/metal functionally graded material, i.e. a particle–reinforcement composite. It was assumed that the material’s plastic deformation follows an isotropic strain-hardening rule based on the von-Mises yield criterion, and that the vessel was...

Residual Strength of Aging Aircraft with Multiple Site Damage/Multiple Element Damage

A numerical study is presented of the residual strength of an aircraft fuselage in the presence of multiple site damage (MSD)/muItiple element damage. The analyses were carried out using a software package that was developed to facilitate automated analyses of full-scale fuselage panels with widespread fatigue damage, using a hierarchical approach and elastic-plastic finite element alternating ...
